OUR SOURDOUGH

The first loaf of bread was baked more than 14,000 years ago. At For the Love of Bread, we believe this staple of daily life should be celebrated as a source of nutrition and energy. That’s why our bread is made the old way. From a time before industrial milling. When organic wheat was milled using traditional stones that preserved the nutrient dense bran and germ. When the only way to leaven bread was slowly, using a sourdough starter that was passed down through the generations.
To bring you this bread we source our flour directly from a French mill that has been in the same family since 1895. A mill committed to sustainable development that sources 100% organic wheat from local farmers. Why French wheat? Because it is naturally low in gluten-forming proteins, and when slowly fermented in a sourdough environment with nothing more than water and salt, produces a flavorful, nutritious, and easy to digest loaf of wholesome bread. All of this so you can love bread again.
